Sarah Hanahan with The Michael Hawkins Trio
Sarah Hanahan is a New York City based alto saxophonist and a rising star in jazz.
Her debut album “Among Giants” is rated 5 Stars in DownBeat magazine and includes a lineup of all-star players Marc Cary, Nat Reeves, and Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Sarah was recently featured in the first-ever “Class of Youngbloods” on NPR Jazz Night in America. The series featured “five up-and-coming jazz geniuses who are revolutionizing their genre” – all of whom are under the age of 30.
She performed worldwide in 2024, and her quartet makes its Blues Alley debut in Washington D.C. on March 10th. Take this opportunity to hear her in person and save the cost of a trip to Blues Alley.
The trio backing Ms. Hanahan is led by a Virginia native and one of the premier bass players working on the East Coast, Michael Hawkins. Together with his band The Brotherhood, Michael has been a mainstay of jazz festivals and club dates for many years, has been a favorite at the annual Lake Anna Jazz Festival, released high charting albums, and shared his talents with upcoming generations as a tireless music educator.
Michael Hawkins is joined by two other superb instrumentalists who’ve been stars of the Virginia music scene for decades, pianist W. Weldon Hill and drummer Kofi Shepsu.
