A French Twist on American Jazz

Join us in a celebration of La Fête Nationale (“Bastille Day”) and the historic, mutual love of jazz we share with our French cousins. Hear the lyrics of familiar standards in English and French.

The show takes place on the lawn of Callie Opie’s Orchard (or inside the event barn in case of rain.) Tickets are only $10.

Jean-Philippe Vidal

Mr. Vidal is the musical mastermind behind one of France’s most famous jazz ensembles, le Côte Ouest Big Band. (The West Coast Big Band).  He serves as director of the annual musical variety show, “Les Nuits du Jazz” in the French city of Nantes.  He is also founder of the Académie du Jazz de l’Ouest (AJO), a jazz historian and critic, specializing in the history of big band and vocal jazz. In addition to his administrative role, he may be performing as conductor, arranger, singer, or woodwind player for his ensembles.

Veronika Rodriquez

Veronika is the lead vocalist of “le Côte Ouest Big Band.”  She recorded 3 albums under her name, including one which received in 1993 the award for the Best Foreign Jazz Vocal Recording in Tokyo.  She received the Golden Microphone from the International Meetings of Jazz in Hamburg in 1996.  In 1997, Harry Connick Jr. chose Veronika to be the opening act for his performance at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.  In 2005, Veronika introduced her new album “Paris is You” at Danny’s Skylight room in New York and received the award for Best Vocal Jazz Performance of the Year in Manhattan.

Steve Herberman

Steve is a distinguished jazz educator, performer, and graduate of Berklee College of Music.  Since taking up 7-string guitar in 1993, he has recorded numerous albums as both leader and sideman. Steve has over 50 video lessons published on Mike’s Masterclasses and has toured across the US and Europe playing and teaching. He is featured in the book The Great Jazz Guitarists by Scott Yanow.

Ginny Carr Goldberg

Ginny Carr Goldberg is a versatile pianist, singer, songwriter, lyricist, and jazz vocal arranger whose original songbook and charts have been published, played, and heralded worldwide. Ginny is the leader, alto vocalist, and principal songwriter/arranger for the internationally acclaimed jazz vocal harmony ensemble, the Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet.  She has performed as a featured pianist throughout the greater Washington, DC area and has entertained many notable clients.

Paul Langosch

Paul Langosch is an enormously in-demand bass player who appears as sideman for the top musicians in show business.  Until recently, Paul was the regular bass player for legendary singer Tony Bennett.

Paul is a true champion of The Arts in Central Virginia, and he’s proven to be a great friend to Lake Anna Jazz.  His willingness to travel and provide guidance to young performers helps our charity continue its mission, entertaining the community and encouraging local musicians.

Kevin Gaines

Kevin Gaines is a versatile drummer who plays primarily Jazz but is adaptable to all styles. Based in Richmond, VA, Kevin is a frequent performer in the RVA and Tidewater regions, and he’s made the trek to Central Virginia many times to help Lake Anna Jazz form great ad hoc ensembles and keep the beat going for our audiences.
